glimpses
Mooney
things I’m excited about recently
summer sheets, butter and blue stripes, inviting rest.
capturing the world through my eyes, with my new Fujifilm x100v.
spending afternoons with my kitten, Mooney, watching him stretch & grow everyday.
los angeles, from may to august. Joshua! my love.
something more atmospheric, porous.
expanses, reservoirs, foundationals: right here.
‘what’s on your mind / heart.’
dim lamps, evenings turn horizontal, knicks versus spurs, like theatre.
DJ & dance: detaching.
the first nested call of a mourning dove outside my window again, savoring this time.
Mooney, a love letter
This gummy little plaything wounds into a grey helix, then accordions himself off the sofa with his freeze dried minnows. Comedic timing, the way he launches off the sky. His wings, airy & doughy.
Cobalt, winter ‘26 Through the deep blue of our apartment, his silhouette appears by the door. My body, weighed by sleep: the only thing my body now seems to do with certainty; as it were, barely a sound, must be seven or eight in the evening. I find my hand reach past the hems of my sheets, tempting gravity, which, without fail, coils tighter against my body. Inside this cobalt world, I find myself again inside the bowel of a reptile—ending with the shell, beginning with the egg. But one way or another, I unlock his reflection, which, in his habitual way of looking, is clear and penetrating, bemused when he first came to my life, profoundly curious. His globular eyes, draw out the finest sea, sand rivulets orbit past his nose, down his cheeks. The soul stills. The cat untangles, first, the endless ropes of the reptile’s intestines, claws the bile out of my throat, then softens my chin back to conviction. Eventually his paw reaches (springs) forward, cupping the yolk as he laps the milk right by my palm.
